Math Review for 6th Grade, 7th Grade, and 8th Grade Standards

master4444

What can you do for a great end of the year project?   In Person?  Hybrid? Still Online?  Find an end-of-the-year project that reviews the most important Standards for the School Year.  If you teach 6th, 7th, or 8th  grade math, here is an engaging, fun, review of 8 different math standards, that can be done completely online.  In this simulation, students compete (by solving math problems) to qualify for the Summer Olympics.  Each qualifying event is held in a different city:  Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro, Capetown, Cairo, Sydney, Tokyo, Paris, and Chicago.  Students can choose their Olympic Event from a list of Olympic sports.   To earn a ticket to the next city, students must correctly solve math problems, keep a travel log, keep track of their travels on a world map, research their city, write a blog, and insert Google Images to create photos of their travels.

8th Grade Review

The 8th Grade review tests students on these standards:

  • Transformations

  • Pythagorean Theorem
  • Exponents
  • Solving Equations with Fractions
  • Graphing Lines using Slope – Intercept Form
  • Graphing Inequalities
  • Solving Equations using the Distributive Property

Easy to Follow

Students move through the slides by clicking on the soccer ball in the corner of each slide, or next to their city on the map.  Each soccer ball has a link to the next activity.  Students can let the teacher know when they have finished a math task, and can only move on when they correct any errors.  There are detailed slides at the end of the deck for teacher instructions, and video instructions are included.  Students need only to follow the soccer balls from slide to slide.  The entire project takes about 2 weeks to complete, depending on the proficiency of the students.

Grading by Points or Rubric

All math tasks have completed examples for teacher grading.   Teachers can grade by points, or with an included rubric.  Each task is assigned points for completion, and teachers are given a point total.  If teachers choose to use only the rubric, grading is very easy.

At the end of the school year, when testing is complete,  assign this fun, Olympic project.  Everything is included, so just assign digitally, and sit back and let the students enjoy the review!
